California Governor Edmund G. Brown, Jr. appointed Senator Richard D. Roth today to the newly created Governor’s Council on California Military Future.

“The Department of Defense employs over 236,000 Californians and invests more than $40 billion in contracts with defense contractors in our state,” said Senator Roth.  “There is an absolute urgency for California to focus on the important role the state’s military bases contribute to our nation’s defense and to California’s economy.”

Presentaron una carta conjunta solicitando una asignación de $ 15 millones necesarios para financiar la Escuela de Medicina de UC Riverside (UCR).

Se realizó esta solicitud urgente de parte del senador y asambleísta porque el rápido crecimiento de la región del interior del sur de Califronia sigue siendo identificada

Riverside Senator Richard D. Roth and Assemblymember Jose Medina testified today before the Senate education budget subcommittee. They delivered a joint letter requesting an allocation of $15 million needed to fund the UC Riverside School of Medicine.

The Senator and Assemblymember’s urgent request was made as the rapidly growing Inland Southern California region continues to be identified as having the most severe shortage of primary care doctors in all of the United States.

Senator Richard D. Roth expressed his sadness on the passing of Jesus Cardenas, founder of Cardenas Markets which has grown as a chain of supermarkets to San Bernardino, Riverside, Los Angeles, Imperial Counties and Las Vegas.
 
Senator Roth said, “I salute Mr. Cardenas’ hard work and commitment to his family and his community.  Mr. Cardenas was an important and influential business leader in Southern California. I know I speak for many in expressing our community’s deepest condolences to the Cardenas family.”

Senator Richard D. Roth (D-Riverside) introduced Senate Bill 801 today that would hold state officials and employees civilly and criminally liable if they knowingly misrepresent the balance of an account containing state funds to the California Department of Finance.

“Public trust has been severely impacted by widely reported state accounting scandals and we owe the taxpayers a commitment to ensure their money is being used appropriately,” said Senator Roth.

Following information about secret, inaccurate financial reporting by two state agencies, Senator Richard D. Roth (D-Riverside) is introducing legislation to hold state officials accountable to provide accurate financial reporting and statements. 

The Senator’s proposed legislation would require any person who knowingly misrepresents any financial or statistical reports to be held criminally and civilly liable.
