Senator Richard D. Roth Honors Riverside Legend

January 09, 2023

(SACRAMENTO) – Today, Senator Richard D. Roth (D-Riverside) is proud to commemorate the lifelong accomplishments of Joseph Tavaglione with a Senate Concurrent Resolution. SCR 13 will rename the interchange, where State Highway Routes 60 and 91 meet Interstate 215 in Riverside County, the Joseph Tavaglione Interchange.

The Tavaglione family settled in Riverside in 1927 and they have made invaluable contributions to the region ever since. Joseph Tavaglione’s work on behalf of the Inland Southern California region and the state of California at large spans four governorships. In 2002, he was appointed as a member of the California Transportation Commission (CTC) by former Governor Davis. He was reappointed by Governor Schwarzenegger in 2005, and again in 2009, and has been honored to serve as Chairman of the Commission. In 2017, Tavaglione was reappointed by Governor Jerry Brown and again by Governor Gavin Newsom in 2021. His current term ends in 2025. This July, Mr. Tavaglione will turn 100 years old.

“Joseph Tavaglione is an institution in Riverside,” said Senator Roth. “His impacts on this community will be felt for generations to come. Renaming this stretch of highway the Joseph Tavaglione Interchange not only honors a man of substance but a man whose worth can be measured in the innumerable – and ongoing – differences he has had on his community.”

The resolution has been introduced to the Senate as SCR 13.
