California outlines its Equity-Centered Plan to Accelerate Access to COVID-19 Vaccines for Education and Child Care Workers (link)
This week, Governor Newsom announced the State’s intention to dedicate a minimum of ten percent of California’s COVID-19 vaccine supply to K-12 school staff and child care workers. Vaccines will be directed to counties and school communities weighted by equity, including the proportion of students from low-income families, English learners, and homeless youth. In turn, education workers will qualify for vaccine prioritization based on occupational health exposure – whether they are currently reporting or will imminently report in person.
  • To see the full vaccine plan for K-12 School Staff and Childcare Workers, click here.
  • To visit Riverside County’s COVID-19 Vaccine Website, click here.

If you have already received your first dose from a county-administered vaccine clinic, county health officials will contact you to set up an appointment for your second dose. To see which groups have already been notified, click here.

REMINDER:  CDC guidelines allow up to 42 days for a second dose with either the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine and due in part to the limited vaccine supply, it may not be possible to get a second dose at the 21- or 28-day mark originally recommended. Guidelines also recommend that your second dose should be from the same manufacturer as the first. For example, if your first dose was a Pfizer vaccine, then your second dose should also be a Pfizer vaccine.

In-Person Instruction to Return for Riverside County Schools with Approved COVID-19 Prevention Plans (link)
On Tuesday, Riverside County public health officials announced that four school districts with approved COVID-19 Prevention plans would be allowed to open for in-person transitional kindergarten (TK) through sixth grade, per the statewide reopening framework. Currently, the four districts permitted throughout the county are Corona-Norco Unified School District, the Palo Verde Valley Unified School District, Desert Sands Unified School District, and Murrieta Valley Unified School District. Parents are highly encouraged to check with their school or district for more information on returning to in-person learning.

A safe return to in-person learning has been a key goal throughout the State since students and teachers were required to move to online learning in March. This progress establishes an important milestone in our region’s recovery and will help us begin to address the far-reaching impacts that the COVID-19 pandemic has had on the social-emotional growth of students and families across our state.

More Youth and Adult Sports Have Been Permitted to Resume (link)
Following California’s new sports guidance, moderate- and high-contact sports, including soccer, football, baseball, cheer, and water polo, may soon resume in Riverside County if the County’s case rates continue to decline. Currently, Riverside County has an adjusted COVID-19 case rate of 16.6, still above the statewide threshold of case rate of 14 cases or fewer per 100,000 residents.
  • To see the California Department of Public Health’s (CDPH) guidance on sports, click here.
With Governor Newsom’s signing of the Immediate Action Budget that provides financial relief and support to Californians hardest hit by the COVID-19 pandemic, the increased stability in vaccine supply, and the milestones made in safe school reopening, the journey ahead grows more promising each day.

Riverside County’s progress in California’s Blueprint for a Safer Reopening has been a result of our collective and steadfast dedication to prioritizing the health and safety of our loved ones and our community. By practicing social distancing, washing hands, wearing protective face coverings, and maintaining a regular testing schedule, we can all do our part to make sure our progress isn’t thwarted.
