The 31st District Digest (October 19 to October 23)

Riverside County has returned to the Purple Tier (link) (Spanish)

On Tuesday, state health officials announced that Riverside County would return to the Purple Tier of California’s Blueprint for a Safer Economy. This means several types of businesses will be required to move their operations outdoors in an effort to slow the spread of COVID-19.

Following this reclassification, Riverside County released a statement underscoring the importance of regular testing to accompany the practice of physical distancing, proper handwashing hygiene, and wearing protective face coverings. The statement can be found here (Spanish). Regular testing by a robust base of county residents will allow the county to have a more accurate depiction of the virus’s spread across the community, which in turn will support our efforts to return to the Red Tier and move further in the reopening journey.

As a reminder, COVID-19 testing is free at county- and state-run testing sites and available to anyone, regardless of insurance or immigration status, or the onset of symptoms.

There are 12 testing sites spread throughout Riverside County, both walk-in and drive-up services. To find county and state-run locations and make an appointment, go online to gettested.ruhealth.org. For a list of other COVID-19 test sites in our area, visit covid19.ca.gov/get-tested.

Additionally, Riverside County health officials are urging residents to get vaccinated against influenza this season as flu symptoms mirror COVID-19 symptoms. The next County-hosted free flu shot clinic will take place on Monday, Oct. 26 at the Indio Fairgrounds (46517 Arabia St, Indio, CA 92201) from 9 AM to 1 PM. There is no cost and no appointment is necessary. For more information on influenza, visit www.rivcoimm.org/.

In conjunction with its announcement of Riverside County’s return to the Purple Tier, California Public Health Officials released new guidance and updates to the state’s Blueprint for a Safer Economy. These updates (found here) included new guidance for theme parks, outdoor sporting events, and personal care services.

While this setback is unfortunate, the great progress that we have made in the past can be replicated. Our efforts today determine the health and safety of our loved ones, our communities, and our small businesses that make our District so vibrant. Now is the time to pursue regular testing and reaffirm our commitment to protecting our health.
