Senator Roth to Chair Oversight Hearing on the California Department of Veterans Affairs

March 02, 2015

Senator Richard D. Roth (D-Riverside) will chair an Oversight Hearing of the Senate Budget and Fiscal Review Subcommittee No. 4 on Thursday, March 5, 2015, on the California Department of Veterans Affairs (CDVA).

As California’s agency tasked with serving our state’s military veterans, CDVA has a distinct and crucial responsibility to identify service gaps to ensure our veterans have access to the services they desperately need and have earned.

During the hearing, the Subcommittee will review CDVA’s budget and program responsibilities to identify any current as well as potential gaps in service for California’s military veterans.

“Quite frankly, California’s veterans deserve more,” said Senator Roth.  “As our veterans return home, serving those who have bravely and selflessly served our country must be one of the State’s highest priorities.  Having served 32 years in the United States Air Force, I know firsthand just how much the transition to civilian life depends on the areas for which CDVA is responsible.”

Among several stated goals and as part of its mission statement, CDVA has outlined providing high quality services to veterans and “long-term care with fiscal efficiencies” as being of particular importance.

In addition to those stated goals, Senator Roth is interested in understanding what programs CDVA has in place or is in the process of placing in order to address mental healthcare and job training and placement issues for California’s veterans.
