COVID-19 Food Resources

Dear Community Members of the 31st Senate District:

Over the last few weeks, our lives have been dramatically impacted by COVID-19 and many in and around our community find themselves confronted by food insecurity. For community members seeking support (and for those of us seeking to give support), I hope the resources below can help inform you about options available nearby.

Resources for Seniors

With our current public health concerns, it is important to make sure that the most vulnerable community members are provided with the services and resources they need. Below, you will find local organizations that offer meals and other services to seniors.

Riverside County Office of Aging – https://www.rcaging.org/Office of Aging  – Nutrition Sites

Meals on Wheels Riverside –  https://www.riversidemow.org/

FSA Senior Services – https://www.fsaca.org/ –  FSA Locations

MoVal Meals – https://www.movalmeals.org/  (For Moreno Valley Residents)

Crossroads Church – Feed Corona – https://www.crossroadschurch.com/feedcorona/ (Grocery and Prescription Pickup/Delivery for older adults in the City of Corona)

Or dial 2-1-1 on your phone to be connected with a local call specialist who can help older Californians access grocery and medication delivery while staying at home.

Food Banks in Our Area

Food banks have long provided our community with food in times of struggle. To learn about where to find the nearest local food bank, visit https://www.feedingamerica.org/find-your-local-foodbank.

CalFresh

COVID-19 has undoubtedly caused interruptions in the financial stability of many families throughout our community. California continues to offer its CalFresh program to help financially disadvantaged families and individuals secure healthy and nutritious foods. To find out if you are eligible, please visit https://www.cdss.ca.gov/food-nutrition/calfresh.

Effective March 18, Governor Newsom issued an executive order to extend the eligibility period for many of the important safety net services that California currently offers. The order waived eligibility re-determination for 90 days, allowing current recipients of CalFresh food assistance, Medi-Cal health coverage, CalWORKS, Cash Assistance for Immigrants, and In-Home Supportive Services to continue to receive these services and benefits without interruption. For more information regarding the executive order, visit: https://www.gov.ca.gov/2020/03/18/governor-newsom-issues-executive-order-to-protect-ongoing-safety-net-services-for-most-vulnerable-californians-during-covid-19-outbreak/

Volunteering

As our local food banks increase the number of community members they serve, they require more helping hands. To find out how you can support their important services, visit www.serve.ca.gov or www.cafoodbanks.org.

Additionally, California has launched a new volunteering initiative for community members to be matched with volunteering opportunities based on their particular skill sets or interests. To learn more, visit www.californiansforall.ca.gov

Thank you to all of our volunteers!
