Young Legislators Program 2025-26

 

Overview

The Young Legislators Program (YLP) is a nine-month civic leadership program sponsored by the Office of
Senator Sabrina Cervantes. The key objectives of the program are to:

  1. Empower young people to become informed and engaged community leaders
  2. Gain an understanding of the legislative process
  3. Strengthen leadership, communication, and public policy skills
  4. Promote civic responsibility and career readiness


Designed for high school juniors and seniors residing or attending school in the 31st Senate District (SD 31), this initiative will
offer students an in-depth, hands-on understanding of state government, public service, and civic
engagement through monthly sessions focused on leadership development, policymaking, and
community impact.


To be considered for the program, students must submit a completed application by September 19, 2025 at 5:00 PM.
 

Selection Criteria

  • Must reside or attend school within SD 31
  • Must be a high school student (grades 11–12)
  • Must submit completed application and respond to short essay questions
  • Commit to attending all scheduled sessions and two community events
     

Program Dates and Location

Sessions will take place the fourth Wednesday of each month from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m., unless otherwise
specified. Meeting locations will alternate throughout SD 31 and in some cases via Zoom. Please review
tentative dates below:

  • Nov 19, 2025 – (3rd Wednesday due to Fall Break/Thanksgiving)
  • Dec 17, 2025 – (3rd Wednesday due to Winter Break/Holiday Vacation)
