Senator Cervantes Names Yolanda Esquivel 31st Senate District 2026 Woman of the Year

(SACRAMENTO, CA) --- Senator Sabrina Cervantes honored Yolanda Esquivel of Riverside as the Woman of the Year for the 31st Senate District at a State Capitol ceremony this month, hosted by the California Legislative Women’s Caucus.

“Yolanda is such an amazing individual who leads with courage in our communities, who always puts our communities first, and who continues to push us forward on so many projects and issues that matter on the Riverside’s eastside and for those who have felt left out of the decision-making process,” said Senator Cervantes. “She is deserving of the flowers, of the recognition, and I am honored that I get to do this for her because her work matters.”

A former teacher, founding member, and Past President of LULAC Riverside, Yolanda brings vital resources to 31st Senate District neighbors through health fairs, voter registration drives, low-income housing initiatives, and scholarships for students and families.

“Whenever my husband and I hear of problems within my community, I immediately start to think, how can we help?” said Ms. Esquivel. “As a teacher, you have to be a leader in your classroom. But the most important thing is to educate, to nurture, to love, and to defend our children.”

Yolanda is a cherished community advocate. Leaders of the community praised Yolanda for her profound integrity and history of advocacy.
