HEATWAVE WARNING AND HELP -
As a late summer heatwave continues this week, please take care of yourself. Exposure to intense heat can be very dangerous!
Weather forecasters are reporting this weekend could bring a record-level heatwave thorough out Southern California with temperatures over 105 degrees across the basin and valley areas. The extended heatwave will also impact coastal communities. Warm overnight temperatures are adding to health threat.
WHAT YOU CAN DO:
- Drink plenty of water and paying close attention to children and pets
- Avoid alcohol and caffeine - these drinks will dehydrate you
- If possible, avoid outdoor activity during the hottest time of the day
- Slow down - rest in the shade or a cool place when possible
- Know the signs and symptoms of heat-related illness
- Check on neighbors and the elderly
- Never, ever leave children or pets unattended in a vehicle
- Wear light weight, loose fitting clothing
- Take a cool shower or bath.
- If you do not have an air conditioner, use a fan and make sure windows are open -visit a cooling center as much as you can.
- When it is hotter than 90° visit a friend that has air conditioning in their home or cool places like a mall, library or senior center.
