Senator Richard D. Roth’s (D-Riverside) measure to address the State’s housing crisis has been approved by the California State Assembly. Senate Bill 540, which is part of a bipartisan package of bills aimed at lowering housing costs and spurring housing construction, was approved on a bipartisan vote of 70-8.

Senator Roth said: “Access to housing is a basic human need, and ensuring Californians have access to an affordable place to live is critical to every Californian’s quality of life. That’s why I am proud to have authored SB 540, which will incentivize and streamline housing construction to meet our state’s dire housing shortage. I thank my colleagues for recognizing the critical need for this measure, and look forward to sending this measure to the Governor for his signature.”

(SACRAMENTO) – Today, Senate Bill 130, which restores critical funding for the newly incorporated cities of Eastvale, Jurupa Valley, Menifee and Wildomar, was approved by the California State Assembly on a bipartisan vote of 72-1.

Each of these cities incorporated prior to the passage of Senate Bill 89 (2011), which was one of the steps the Legislature took to close the State’s massive budget gap. SB 89 resulted in cities which had incorporated after 2004 losing critical public safety and municipal services funding that had previously been allocated to newly incorporated cities.
