Riverside County Moves to the Orange Tier of the Statewide Blueprint for a Safer Reopening (link) (Spanish)

This week, Riverside County health officials announced that the county had met the state’s updated requirements and metrics to move to the Orange Tier of California’s Blueprint for a Safer Reopening. As of Wednesday, April 7, an expanded range of sectors have been permitted to resume indoor and outdoor operations at designated capacities. Per the County’s release:

  • Retail businesses may increase capacity to 100 percent indoors;
  • Places of worship, movie theaters, restaurants, as well as museums, zoos, and aquariums may increase indoor capacity to 50 percent with modifications;
  • Gyms, wineries, breweries, and distilleries may increase indoor capacity to 25 percent indoors with modifications; and
  • Effective April 15: meetings, receptions, and conferences are allowed indoors for up to 150 individuals, if all guests are tested or fully vaccinated.

Vaccine Eligibility: Riverside County Residents and Workers 16+ may now be Vaccinated (link) (Spanish)

As another boost in our region’s path to recovery, Riverside County expanded COVID-19 vaccine eligibility to all individuals 16 or older who live, work, or study in Riverside County:

NOTE: Teenagers 16 and 17 years old must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian and register for a vaccination clinic that offers the Pfizer vaccine. The Moderna and Johnson & Johnson vaccines can only be given to individuals age 18 years and older. Vaccination of individuals younger than 16 will start as soon as the COVID-19 vaccines are approved for them.

To make a COVID-19 vaccine appointment at a county vaccine site, visit the Riverside County COVID-19 Vaccine Page.

  • If you are a senior and need assistance to schedule an appointment, please call the Riverside County Office of Aging at 1 (800) 510-2020 or call 2-1-1.
  • Email your questions about Riverside County vaccinations to rivco.vaccines@ruhealth.org
  • For more on California’s Vaccine Plan, click here or call California’s Vaccine Hotline at (833) 422-4255.
  • If you are a veteran and would like to schedule a COVID-19 Vaccine appointment through your local VA office, please click here or call (909) 825-7084 ext. 5085

REMINDER:  CDC guidelines allow up to 42 days for a second dose with either the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine and due in part to the evolving vaccine supply, it may not be possible to get a second dose at the 21- or 28-day mark originally recommended. Guidelines also recommend that your second dose should be from the same manufacturer as the first. For example, if your first dose was a Pfizer vaccine, then your second dose should also be a Pfizer vaccine.

Beyond the Blueprint: CA’s Next Steps in the COVID-19 Pandemic Recovery (link)

In a monumental step forward, Governor Newsom announced the state’s goal to fully reopen on June 15, pending California’s ability to meet the following criteria:

  • If vaccine supply is sufficient for Californians 16 years and older who wish to be inoculated; and
  • If hospitalization rates are stable and low.

Per the Governor’s announcement, “everyday activities will be allowed and businesses can open with common-sense risk reduction measures, including encouraging all Californians to get vaccinated and mandating masking, to prevent illness and promote health.”  This goal was set to reflect California’s recent clearing of significant milestones—administering more than 20 million vaccine doses, including 4 million in the state’s hardest-hit communities, and steadily declining hospitalizations rates.

State health officials will continue to monitor hospitalization rates, vaccine access, and vaccine efficacy against variants, with the option to revisit the June 15 date if needed.

Friendly Reminders

FREE COVID-19 Testing

COVID-19 vaccinations and regular testing work hand in hand to accelerate our region’s path to recovery. It is important that we maintain our testing schedule to ensure that our public health leaders can accurately assess the spread of the virus throughout our community and track the progress that we have made together.

COVID-19 testing is free at county- and state-run testing sites and available to anyone, regardless of insurance or immigration status, or the onset of symptoms.

  • To make an appointment for COVID-19 testing through Riverside County, visit gettested.ruhealth.org or call (800) 945-6171.
  • To make an appointment for COVID-19 testing through the state, visit lhi.care/covidtesting or call (888) 634-1123.

Additionally, the Cities of Riverside, Corona, Moreno Valley, and Jurupa Valley have partnered with Curative to provide no-cost, self-administered, drive-up tests that are open to all, including those who live outside of the city. Test recipients can expect results as early as 24 hours by text message or email.

  • To make an appointment or to find locations for COVID-19 testing through Curative, visit curative.com.

NOTE: It is important to remember that a negative test result does not absolve us of the need to wear a mask, practice safe social distancing, and stay home, especially if we exhibit symptoms similar to COVID-19. Consulting your doctor can help ensure that your symptoms can be managed or if another test may be recommended. If you are uninsured or have Medi-Cal but do not have a primary care doctor, California has launched an advice line that can connect you with a nurse, day or night, to talk about COVID-19 symptoms and can help you connect with local resources in our community.

  • Call the Medi-Nurse Line at (877) 409-9052 or click here for more information.
