Jurupa Valley to Honor Senator Roth for his Fight to Save Riverside County’s Newest Cities

Senator Roth speaks in support of SB 107 on the Senate Floor on Sept. 11, 2015. The bill provides substantial debt relief for Riverside County’s newest cities.

(JURUPA VALLEY, CA) -- Senator Richard D. Roth (D-Riverside) announced today that the City of Jurupa Valley will recognize him with a proclamation for his fight to save Riverside County’s newest cities on Tuesday, September 22, 2015.

Local leaders are praising Senator Roth’s bipartisan leadership and hard work with the successful passage of Senate Bill 107, the local government budget trailer bill that provides financial relief for Riverside County’s newest cities.

“Senator Roth has been fighting not only for our city but for all of Riverside County’s newest cities since before he was even elected to office,” said Jurupa Valley Mayor pro Tem Laura Roughton.  “Senator Roth has been a steadfast advocate for our region and its issues, setting a stellar example of how a legislator should serve: rising above politics and focusing on the issues.  We owe Senator Roth a tremendous debt of gratitude for making our region’s issues a top priority in Sacramento.”

Of Riverside County’s newest cities, Jurupa Valley was hit especially hard by the sudden shift of Vehicle License Fees in 2011.  As a result of this funding shift the City incurred substantial debt, owing Riverside County approximately $18 million.  SB 107 relieves that debt, clearing the ledger and allowing Jurupa Valley to live another day.

Supervisor John Tavaglione, who represents Jurupa Valley on the Riverside County Board of Supervisors, said:  “Senator Roth’s tireless efforts to save Riverside County’s newest cities are beyond comparison.  No one has worked harder or done more on our region’s behalf in the Legislature than Senator Roth, and he is truly deserving of this special recognition.”

Senator Roth said: “It has been an honor working with our local leaders to deliver this victory for Jurupa Valley and all Inland Southern Californians.  I thank the City for this special recognition and am looking forward to continuing to work with our local leaders as we make Inland Southern California an even greater place to live, work and raise our families.”
