Senator Roth to Chair Oversight Hearing on Department of Consumer Affairs’ BrEZe IT Project

March 10, 2015

Senator Richard D. Roth (D-Riverside) will chair an Oversight Hearing of the Senate Budget Subcommittee No. 4 on Thursday, March 12, 2015, on the Department of Consumer Affairs’ (DCA) BrEZe IT project.

In addition to items proposed by the Governor, the subcommittee will review DCA’s efforts to implement a department-wide automated licensing and enforcement platform known as BreEZe.  The cost of implementing BreEZe has increased by over 300% since it began in 2009, and will now take nearly three years longer to implement than originally planned.

“It is both disappointing and unacceptable that California taxpayers have once again been burdened by an IT project that is years behind schedule and tens of millions of dollars over budget,” said Senator Roth.  “We have a paramount duty to hold government accountable, and Californians deserve to know how their tax dollars are being spent.”

This oversight hearing will be available online via live stream at http://senate.ca.gov.
