Dear Friends:

Due to state budget cuts California's four newest cities, all in Riverside County, have lost funding the state had historically provided new cities to get started. As a result, I authored Senate Bill 56 to help find state funding for our cities, two of which, Jurupa Valley and Eastvale, are in Senate District 31.

The loss of state money means one of those new cities, Jurupa Valley, through no fault of their own, faces the unfortunate reality of losing their whole city.

While SB 56 did not pass the Legislature and become law this year, I am continuing to work with the Governor and the Legislature to build support for a funding fix for the cities.

This is an issue of fairness. I am working to get our new cities the money they need to sustain their start-up and the ability to move forward to grow and prosper.

I have not given up on finding a fair and appropriate funding fix for the cities. I will continue working to do whatever I can to fix this inequity for our new cities. SB 56 can be taken up for legislative action again in January and I understand the urgency to find a resolution to this issue, especially for the City of Jurupa Valley.
