This coming Tuesday, May 28, staff members from my district office will be holding community office hours from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the VFW Post 10267, 8607 Mission Blvd., Jurupa Valley, CA 92509.

Staff will be available to assist with any questions or issues you have regarding state services and programs. Brochures and information will be available and your opinions are always appreciated on state legislative issues. Please stop by and say hello. We are always at your service and look forward to meeting you.

UC Riverside Medical School News:

This week, Assemblymember Jose Medina and I successfully placed $15 million of continuous funding for the UC Riverside Medical School into the Fiscal Year 2013- 2014 California State Budget Bill.

The Inland Southern California region continues to be identified as having the most severe shortage of primary care doctors in all of the United States. This is a critical step forward for the people of our region who have waited too long for the basic healthcare services they need. The UC Riverside Medical School is absolutely critical to meeting the very basic healthcare needs of the residents of Inland Southern California.

With the budget language in both the Senate and Assembly versions of the proposed budget, continuous funding for the UC Riverside Medical School will be in the final version of the budget that goes to the Governor for his signature.

The Constitutional deadline for the Legislature to pass the budget bill is midnight, June 15, 2013. The Governor decides on budget bill vetoes and signs the Budget Act and budget trailer Bills prior to July 1, when California's Fiscal Year begins.
