Statement on Governor Brown’s Veto of Measure to Protect Law Enforcement Injured in the Line of Duty

September 30, 2016

(Riverside, CA) -- Senator Richard D. Roth (D-Riverside) issued the following statement today on the Governor’s veto of Senate Bill 897, which would have provided law enforcement one additional year to recover from catastrophic injuries sustained while protecting Californians:

“I am truly disappointed in the Governor’s decision to veto SB 897, a commonsense, bipartisan measure that would have not only been the right thing to do, but would have also been sound public policy.  While the Governor has expressed concern that standing with the brave men and women who put their lives on the line every day to protect our children, families, homes and neighborhoods may not be worth the financial cost, I believe that providing our public safety heroes with additional time to recover from catastrophic injuries sustained in the line of duty and return to work is the right thing to do.”
