Senator Roth’s Statement on the Governor’s Inaugural Address

January 05, 2015

Senator Richard D. Roth (D-Riverside) issued the following statement today in response to Governor Jerry Brown’s Inaugural Address:

“I am pleased that Governor Brown is continuing his commitment to fiscal conservatism.  Inland Southern California and the State depend on sound fiscal policies to ensure its residents have the quality of life they need and deserve.  As California continues to right its economic ship, it is important that we continue to balance the budget, build the rainy-day reserve, pay off the “wall of debt,” and build jobs as the State continues to increase funding to K-12 and higher education.

“We will face challenges in improving access to healthcare, particularly in underserved areas, and in transportation infrastructure funding.

“I am encouraged that the Governor shares my concern with respect to the State’s decaying transportation infrastructure.  Nowhere is this need more apparent than in Inland Southern California, where critical and timely improvements to our roads, highways and bridges are long overdue.

“I will continue to fight to address Inland Southern California’s needs in this and other key areas, and look forward to working with my colleagues in the Legislature and the Governor to ensure our region receives what it truly needs and rightly deserves.”
